LAURINBURG — Scotland Christian Academy’s baseball and softball teams played through difficult stretches last week.
Baseball team drops pair of games
Scotland Christian’s baseball team lost 3-2 in extra innings at Mintz Christian on Thursday. Mintz Christian won on a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Matt Williams and Russell Thompson both tallied two hits for the Saints. Williams also had four of Scotland Christian’s nine stolen bases.
On the mound, Williams registered six strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings. He allowed five hits and three runs.
The Saints lost 5-1 on Friday against Columbus Christian. Josh Williams, Matt Tomlinson and Seth Chavis had one hit apiece for the Saints. Josh Williams also picked up three strikeouts while allowing four runs on four hits in three innings of work.
The two losses left the Saints with an overall record of 2-3.
Softball team wraps up week with win
After losing 12-11 on Thursday at Mintz Christian, Scotland Christian’s softball team defeated Columbus Christian 8-5 on Friday.
In the loss at Mintz Christian, pitcher Alyssa Seabolt tallied seven strikeouts for the Lady Saints. Rachel Brown was 3-fo4-4 with three RBIs. Sarah Decker and Mackenzie Harrell both registered one RBI.
In the win against Columbus Christian, Brown went 4-for-4 with four RBIs. Sarah Decker collected three hits and three RBIs, while teammate Bethany Janis also logged three hits to go along with one RBI. Seabolt had another seven-strikeout outing for the Lady Saints, who moved to 3-2 on the season.
