LAURINBURG – Half of eligible Scotland County residents have had at least one dosage of the COVID-19 vaccine, according to the Scotland County Health Department.
As of Dec. 6, 46% of residents have had their second shot. Kathie Cox, spokesperson for the Health Department, said there’s not any data on the number of people who have had booster shots.
“Our goal is to reach at least 65% of our population being fully vaccinated,” she said.
To reach this goal, county commissioners have approved money to incentivize residents to take the shot.
Gift cards are being offered for each shot — $25 for the first dose of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine.; $50 for the second dose and $50 for the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine; $25 is being offered for booster shots.
To qualify for the gift cards, the vaccine has to be done with a local provider and you have to present the vaccine card and identification at the Scotland County Health Department.
The hours to collect the cards are Monday through Thursday from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. Friday’s hours are 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
“The COVID vaccine is available at several locations in Scotland County – pharmacies, hospital, provider offices, health department, and the American Legion Site, that also provides COVID testing drive-through,” Cox said.
