OAKBORO — Scotland wrestling came on top over three of its five opponents in Saturday’s duals at West Stanly High School.
Scotland beat North Stanly 51-24, Marvin Ridge 41-41, and West Stanly 42-33; the Fighting Scots lost 57-21 to Orange and 69-12 to Porter Ridge.
Against North Stanly, Scotland had forfeit wins in the 126, 150, and 175-pound weight classes; North Stanly earned a victory by forfeit at 144 and 157, and both teams forfeited at 165. Scotland’s Josh Smith — who finished the day 5-0 — at 106, Minnie Locklear — who joined Caydence Deese as the only two women to wrestle for Scotland at the event — at 113, Donerio Graham at 132, Treyvon Brigman at 138, and Vinny Butera at 285 earned pinfall wins, and Brayden Richardson picked up a victory by a 7-0 decision at 120; North Stanly triumphed by pinfall at 190 and 215.
Scotland had forfeit wins at 106, 138, 157, 175, 190, and 215 against Marvin Ridge; the Scots forfeited bouts at 144, 150, and 165. Richardson got a pin at 120 for Scotland, while Marvin Ridge won by pinfall at 113, 126, and 285 and a technical-fall win at 132.
The Scots picked up six pinfall victories at 106, 132, 138, 175, 190, and 215 against West Stanly and one by forfeit at 285. West Stanly won three matches by pinfall at 113, 120, and 150, two by forfeit at 144 and 157, and one by a 9-2 decision at 126. Both teams forfeited at 165.
Scotland took wins by forfeit at 215 and 285 against Orange, one by a 17-11 decision at 106, and one by pinfall at 138. Orange’s 10 match wins came by pinfall six times at 113, 120, 126, 132, 150, and 190, forfeit three times at 144, 157, and 165, and a 15-9 decision at 175.
Only two matches favored Scotland against Porter Ridge — forfeits at 106 and 120; Porter Ridge won the other 12 bouts by pinfall at 113, 126, 132, 138, 175, 190, 215, and 285, forfeit at 144, 157, and 165, and a 9-2 decision at 150.
Scotland’s next time on the mat will be on Jan. 6 in the P.J. Smith Memorial at Purnell Swett High School in Maxton.
