LAURINBURG — Scotland’s swim team posted a pair of fourth-place finishes in a field of eight teams at the Sandhills Athletic Conference championship meet on Saturday at St. Andrews University.

Scotland’s boys finished with 200 points. They followed third-place Lumberton (209), runner-up Jack Britt (349) and conference champion Pinecrest (392).

In the girls standings, Scotland (188) trailed third-place Lumberton (206), runner-up Pinecrest (257) and champion Jack Britt (397).

The Fighting Scots tallied a combined seven top-three finishes. Liam Lentz finished second in the boys 200-yard freestyle; Cassie Rinkacs logged a runner-up finish in the girls 50-yard freestyle, and placed third in the 100-yard freestyle; Nicholas Eury finished third in the boys 100-yard backstroke; Scotland’s girls 200-yard medley relay team (Morgan Stewart, Maegan Gunnells, Rinkacs and Madison Williams) and girls 400-yard freestyle relay team (Portia Driggers, Morgan Stewart, Gunnells and Rinkacs) both finished third in their respective events; and Scotland’s boys 400-yard freestyle relay team (Redionysis Redionysis, Ethan Phillippi, Lentz and Connor Bert) registered a third-place finish.

Jennifer Carter, Scotland’s coach, said she was proud of the “dedication” her team exhibited throughout the meet. She applauded the efforts of Scotland’s podium finishers, as well as the team’s seniors — Lentz, Liza McIntyre, Drew Monroe and Tyler Walters.

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association regional meet will begin on Feb. 2.
