Stone Phillips

LAURINBURG — Stone Phillips, a recent graduate of Scotland High School, has received a $2,000 scholarship from Fort Bragg South, operated by the Defense Commissary Agency.

Phillips, who plans to enroll at Mercer University, was a member of Scotland High School’s Key Club and played soccer and tennis, and was involved in the Boy Scouts and his church youth group. His parents are John and Sherrie Phillips.

Phillips plans to attend Mercer University.

Reynolds Consumer Goods diverted monies typically spent through promotions at Fort Bragg South to fund Stone’s scholarship. Commissaries worldwide serve as an access point for scholarship funds through the Scholarships for Military Children Program, open to sons and daughters of members of the U.S. Armed Services including active duty, retirees, guard/reserves and children of deceased military personnel.

Applicants for the 2015 selection were required to maintain a 3.0 grade point average, participate in various school and community activities and write an essay on a woman who influenced military decisions for the Axis or Allied forces during World War II .
