LAURINBURG — Bright Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church will host a drive-thru giveaway of bags containing items such as masks, hand sanitizer and information packets relating to the safety precautions to follow during the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Saturday, Aug. 22, from 10 a.m. to noon, the Rev. Garland Pierce, along with the Healthcare and Missionary Ministries are inviting the community to visit Bright Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church at 601 N. Main St. in Laurinburg to participate in the drive-through event.

“We encourage and support our community in helping to decrease the risk and spread of coronavirus,” says Arletha Brown, chairwoman of the Healthcare Ministry.

Brown, a retired nurse at Scotland Memorial Hospital, hopes the community will partake in this event.

The bags that will be given out will contain masks and hand sanitizer, among other items. Masks and hand sanitizer have been increasingly hard to find, and expensive when you do find them. These items can prevent the spread of the virus and potentially save lives.

“As a ministry, it is so important to reach out to our community and make sure everyone is safe and prepared. This is a community friendly event, everyone is welcome,” says Rev. Pierce. “This is for the good of our community, and we commend all non-profits for giving out items such as masks.”

Pierce invites anyone in need to come out and take part in the drive-thru.

“We want everyone to stay safe, and we hope the items we have available will help.”
