LAURINBURG — It was all smiles on Friday at Scottish Pines Rehabilitation and Nursing Center as residents were treated to a visit from Winter Stables out of Marston.
Due to COVID-19, residents cannot have visitors in the building, but Scottish Pines staff still wanted to bring the normal fun of National Nursing Home Week to there residents. So to kick everything off, residents got to see horses from Winter Stables at their windows.
“We’re arranging stuff to be done outside all the windows,” said Tanya Currin, the director of life enrichment. “Rebecca with Winter Stables has graciously agreed to bring her horses out here and take them around the windows for everybody … the residents are so excited.”
When the horses began to go around the building residents waved and blew kisses from inside as well as some even trying to pet the horses through the windows. The touching site had Winter Stables owner Rebecca Winter ready to come back once residents are able to interact with people outside the facility so they can pet and interact with the horses.
Winter was happy to bring the horses out for the afternoon to bring some added brightness to the resident’s days.
“We wanted to give back,” Winter said. “We know how we feel in quarantine so I can’t even imagine how they feel in quarantine right now.”
For National Nursing Home week Currin said that there will be some fun activities for the residents including a dancing and singing Elvis who will be going to the windows.
“The community has really come together wanting to do stuff outside the windows,” Currin said. “I’ve got people coming next week, I’ve got pirates coming from Lumberton … life goes on through the pandemics but we still have to make the quality of their life the best it can be.”
