LAURINBURG — A press conference concerning the officer involved shooting that took place on Saturday was canceled.

The conference was scheduled for noon Thursday to address the shooting that involved a Laurinburg police officer and left Desmond Bethea in critical condition.

Instead, City Attorney William Floyd was asked to create a press release which will be issued soon.

The shooting happened at the intersection of Lee’s Mill and Produce Market roads around 3 a.m. where an 18 year-old was struck 17 times by gunfire, according to the teenager’s family.

The Laurinburg Police Department has declined so far to discuss details of the case. The SBI is investigating the incident.
