LAURINBURG — Small fire shut down Music Master on U.S. Highway 15/501 for a few hours on Thursday.
The music store, in operation for 35 years, is owned by Alice and Dave Wilkins.
Dave Wilkins said he and an employee were the only people in the store when the worker said he smelled smoke.
According to Wilkins, they went outside and saw smoke coming from the gutters and called the fire department.
“I’m just hoping that my money is still there,” Wilkins joked at the scene
Laurinburg Fire Chief Randy Gibson said that the fire was contained to the back workshop of the building.
“There’s minimum damage since it was contained, which is good considering how many instruments are in the building,” Gibson said.
The fire department turned the investigation over to the police department to determine the cause.
