GIBSON — It’s lights, Santa, action for towns across Scotland County.

With Thanksgiving out of the way, the town of Gibson will hold its annual Christmas tree lighting on Friday night. It is just one of a plethora of activities planned across the county for the holiday season.

The free Gibson Christmas event will be held at the Gibson Depot, beginning at 6 p.m. with coffee, hot cocoa and cookies. The actual tree lighting will take place at 8 p.m. and Santa and Mrs. Claus are expected to make an appearance.

This is the third year the town has held the ceremony.

“We wanted to give back to the community a little bit,” Town Clerk Angela Hunsucker said. “There isn’t a whole lot to do in Gibson so it’s a way for us to show the town folks that we appreciate them.”

Hunsucker also said the the museum will be open during the event for visitors to walk through. About 100 people attend the event each year.

“The town decorates the tree and it gives people a chance to get together and visit with people they might not have seen in a while,” said Hunsucker. “
