LAURINBURG — The Lady Scots opened the Sandhills Athletic Conference Tournament on Monday by hosting Southern Lee, and handed the Lady Cavaliers a 48-23 trouncing.
Alicia McClain, who scored just four points in the first half, exploded for 16 points in the third quarter and led Scotland with 20 for the game. Madysan Hammonds contributed nine points and Kaydense Sheppard added eight points for the Lady Scots.
The win improved the No. 4-seed Scotland to 14-7 and sends them into the second round on Wednesday. They will go on the road to play No. 2-seed Pinecrest.
