LAURINBURG — Scotland’s basketball teams are preparing to compete at holiday tournaments over the next couple of weeks.
The Lady Scots will play in the three-day Cumberland County Holiday Classic Basketball Tournament that begins on Thursday at E.E. Smith High School in Fayetteville.
The tournament will include four brackets — two for boys and two for girls — and each bracket will have its own site.
The Lady Scots are in the Gene Arrington bracket, which is hosted by E.E. Smith. First-round action will begin on Thursday with Gray’s Greek vs. Lakewood at 4 p.m. That game will be followed by Terry Sanford vs. Triton at 5:30 and Jack Britt vs. Westover at 7. Scotland will face E.E. Smith at 8:30 in the final game of the evening. All start times are approximate.
Four more games — two from the winner’s bracket and two from the consolation bracket — will be played at E.E. Smith on Friday.
Bracket play will continue with third, fifth and seventh-place games at E.E. Smith. Fayetteville State University’s Capel Arena will host The Gene Arrington bracket’s championship game at 2 on Saturday.
Scotland’s boys basketball team will play in the three-day Adidas Christmas Tournament that begins on Thursday, Dec. 27 at West Bladen High School.
The tournament’s opening day will feature South Brunswick vs. East Bladen at 2 p.m.; Pinecrest vs. First Flight at 4; West Brunswick vs. Whiteville at 6; and Scotland vs. West Bladen at 8.
On Friday, consolation bracket games will be played at 2 and 4 p.m. Winner’s bracket games will take place at 6 and 8.
The tournament will conclude on Saturday. The seventh-place game will be played at 2 p.m., the fifth-place game will be at 4, the third-place game will begin at 6 and the championship game will start at 8.
The tournament’s admission fee is $6 with no passes out.
“We are again happy to be hosting this event,” West Bladen head coach Travis Pait said. “The teams joining us this year are really good. This continues to be one of the premiere tournaments in the state. The level of competition will certainly help prepare all of the participants for conference play.”
