LAURINBURG — The Fighting Scots football team will be well represented during the 2018 East-West All-Star football game in July as it was announced last week that seniors Warren Bell and Chris Williams were selected to play in this year’s game.
Bell served as the Scots quarterback after transferring into the district from Westover last summer and Williams served as one of the Scots linebackers.
Both will be taking their talents to the collegiate level in the fall, Bell signed as a running back with Lenoir Rhyne and Williams and twin brother Tim signed with North Carolina A&T University.
In the passing game, Bell had 52 passes for 945 yards for 15 touchdowns with two interceptions. In the run game, Bell had 215 carries for 2,093 yards and 27 touchdowns during the 2017 season. He also set the single-game rushing record at Scotland against South Central in the first round of the playoffs with 16 carries for 380 yards. Fellow senior Zamir White held the previous record, set earlier in the season, with 312 yards.
Williams was a three-year starter for the Fighting Scots and was named the SAC-8 Defensive Player of the Year. He led the team with 107 solo tackles, 12 for a loss, two sacks, two caused fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
The Sandhills Athletic Conference also had two other selections to the East Team in Richmond guard Chase Coulthard and Seventy-First offensive lineman Greg Walker.
The East team will be coached by Garner’s Thurman Leach. He will be assisted by Southeast Raleigh’s Daniel Finn, Farmville Central’s Scott Gardner, White Oak’s Eric Leary, North Duplin’s Hugh Martin and Clayton’s Brian Roach.
The 70th annual East-West All-Star game will be held in Greensboro at Robert D. Jamison Stadium on Wednesday, July 18 at 8 p.m. There will be a fireworks show at halftime. Ticket prices have not been released yet.
