LAURINBURG – A Laurinburg man was charged with weapons violations after being served with a child support warrant.

Bryan Eric Locklear, 31, of Laurel Hill Church Road was charged possession of firearms by convicted felon and placed in the Scotland County Detention Center.

The arrest came after Deputy Curtis Garth visited the home of to serve a warrant. Garth, the newly appointed deputy serving the Scotland County Department of Social Services, recognized Locklear from Garth’s time as n officer with Scotland County Detention Center.

“[Garth] knew he was a felon and saw that Locklear had firearms in his possession,” Sheriff Ralph Kersey said. “He relayed the information to the detective’s division and they obtained a search warrant.”

It was also discovered that Locklear had outstanding warrants for failure to appear on a driving while impaired charge and probation violations. Locklear’s total bond on all charges is $38,000, according to Kersey.
