LAURINBURG – Several exits along the U.S. 74 Bypass in Scotland County and sections of U.S. 401 in Hoke County will get fresh pavement under a new contract.
Barnhill Contracting, of Rocky Mount, received a $5.4 million contract from the N.C. Department of Transportation last week. Barnhill will resurface six miles of U.S. 401 between the Scotland County line and Crawford Wright Road in Hoke County.
Work will begin later this summer and is scheduled to be completed by August 2019.
The contractor will also repave the on-and-off ramps and loops on the U.S. 74 Bypass at Exit 182 (N.C. 79) and Exits 184 (South Main Street) through 190 (Airport Road) in Scotland County. The highway along those exits has been previously repaved.
Additionally, crews will resurface 23 sections of secondary roads across both counties. All told, 43 miles of roadway will be improved.
This was one of 25 road and bridge contracts recently awarded by NCDOT.
