LAURINBURG — Santana Whitman has joined the sales staff of The Laurinburg Exchange.
Whitman, a 2010 graduate of Purnell Swett High School, earned an associates degree in accounting from King’s College in Charlotte.
“We’re excited to bring Santana aboard as a part of our Exchange advertising staff,” said Althea Simpson, general manager of the newspaper. “Our regional publisher, Denise Ward, was impressed by Santana’s exceptional customer service skills at a restaurant she frequented and asked her to call for an interview.
“We found that she also has a strong numbers background, having prepared taxes for a major tax firm for several years,” she added. “The combination of customer service and math is a winner for anyone in advertising. In addition, we’ve come to find that Santana has a naturally friendly, outgoing personality, and we’re enjoying having her as a part of our team — and we know our customers will, too.”
Whitman comes to The Exchange after being employed by Christopher’s in Lumberton.
“This all came about out of the blue, when (Ward) gave me her card and asked if I’d be interested in sales,” Whitman said. “I was ready for a new start, so it came at a perfect time.”
But the new start has its challenges.
“This is totally new to me, but there are a lot of similarities with waitressing, because it’s all customer-service based,” Whitman said. “I’m really looking forward to the challenge, as well as to serving the people of Laurinburg and Scotland County.”
Whitman resides in Pembroke with fiance Phillip McInnis and their son Jasiah, 2.
