LAUREL HILL —A Laurel Hill woman was shot to death early Tuesday morning in what appears to a be a home invasion on Marston Road.

A man, who was also at the home, was injured in the double shooting, according to news reports.

Major Rodney Tucker of the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office declined to release the names of the victims or any details on the case at presstime.

State Bureau of Investigation, which is assisting the sheriff’s office, has confirmed the shooting to some media outlets, but could not be reached for further comment by The Laurinburg Exchange on Tuesday.

The Marston Road home of the victims was still roped off with police tape Tuesday afternoon with several investigators on the scene.

Neighbors said the shooting occurred at about 4 a.m. Tuesday morning after at least two men barged into the home. Neighbors said they heard from family members that the woman, a supervisor at Plastek, suffered a gunshot wound to the head. The man was shot at least once in the leg.

A third person at the home, believed to be the female victim’s daughter, was able to escape.

Several neighbors and friends of the victim took to Facebook to offer condolences and express shock at the shooting.

“There’s a home roped off on Marston Road. What in the world?” one person wrote on Facebook. “We are indeed living in end times. My grandmother has lived around that area since the 60’s. Hard working people lived there. She owns her property as well as my aunt, and property I live on. Shame on these people who refuse to work and be responsible citizens. It’s a shame.”

Other Facebook users warned Marston Road residents to be on the lookout for the shooters.

One woman who lives near the victims said the incident has unnerved her.

“I was concerned that somebody was breaking into someone’s home especially with me having small children,” she said. “So I was on alert and stayed on alert.”
