LAURINBURG — The Laurinburg Exchange’s community collection drive for toys to benefit Madison’s Toy Chest got a tremendous boost this week when a donor dropped off a check.
Michael and Jeanne Fedak of Laurinburg contributed $500 to the Live Like Madison organization for the purpose of getting additional new toys into the community drive.
“That check got passed around the office amid numerous ‘wows,’” said W. Curt Vincent, editor of the newspaper. “It’s a tremendous give to a worthy cause, and we feel sure it will put new toys and activities into the hands of children who are battling cancer.”
In addition to the check, The Exchange also received donation of toys from Ann Sprouse, Julie Carnahan, Kyle Bethel and State Rep. Garland Pierce.
Toys collected throughout the month of July will be delivered by the Live Like Madison organization to officials at Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte and with Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg.
The newspaper is looking for items such as Barbies, stuffed animals, Legos, Play-dough and more — however, all of the items must be new and unopened.
Toys can be dropped off at The Laurinburg Exchange office located in The Oaks professional building, located on South Main Street, Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
