LAURINBURG — There have been claims stating that the call center slated to come to Laurinburg is a scam, but Jarvis Samuel says it’s untrue.
Samuel is the president of operations for Synergy Communication, a company that has mainly focused on third-party sales teams by going door-to-door.
Online, mostly Facebook, numerous posts have claimed that the call center coming to Laurinburg are a scam and that Samuel has no intentions of opening the business. Samuel visited The Laurinburg Exchange on Tuesday to discuss those claims.
“We’ve signed the lease for the Abbot Building, so why would I be paying $46,000 a month if it was a scam?” Samuel said. “We have our permits from the city and our lease, we have the forms to become chamber members … the money to pay for it all is coming from our other operations.”
Samuel said that he was going to get in contact with Mega Force to have them handle the hiring process from now on, since there have been claims that he has acted unprofessionally along with scam claims. Samuel adamantly told The Exchange that no one’s Social Security numbers were taken and that the company hadn’t even looked at drivers licenses, it had all strictly resumes.
“This is our first call center, we haven’t done anything like this before,” Samuel said. “When the opportunity first came to us to try and make this happen, Laurinburg was the first to come to mind because it’s home. We’re trying to start this up and be up and running in the next few months.”
According to John Schwarz, who is one part of John and Jeff Schwarz LLC that owns the Abbot Building, Samuel has signed a lease for three years for the building.
He added that the company has about 50 other locations throughout several states and he’s talked to Samuel about one in South Carolina and another in Thomasville, which are larger buildings.
“It’s a good building for what he’s trying to do,” Schwarz said. “We want to help bring the economy back to some of these smaller areas and we’re rooting for him to succeed.”
Samuel added that an offical Synergy Facebook page will be coming soon to continue giving updates on the process, and if anyone had any questions to contact him via Facebook.
According to both the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office and Laurinburg Police Department, there have been no criminal complaints brought up against the company or Samuel.
