LAURINBURG – Police have arrested a Laurinburg man who they say robbed an acquaintance at a cookout on Saturday.

James Seals, 39, of Duncan Street, was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, according to Assistant Police Chief Cliff Sessoms.

The victim, Brian Sessoms, was at the barbecue on Simmons Avenue with friends when Seals pulled a gun and demanded Sessoms’ jewelry, according to police.

Seals is being held in Scotland County Jail under a $30,000 bond.

According to state Department of Public Safety records, Seals has a criminal record dating to 1994 for crimes including common law robbery and assault on a female.
