Thursday, Friday’s games against Union Pines postponed
Both the Scotland High School junior varsity and varsity football teams are currently in quarantine due to COVID-19 protocols, the Laurinburg Exchange confirmed Wednesday.
As a result, the Scots’ JV and varsity games on Thursday and Friday against Union Pines are postponed. Athletic director David Johnson said the school will try to reschedule the games against the Vikings for a later date, if possible.
Scotland’s 10-day quarantine period will end Monday Oct. 11, when practice will resume. The Scots will still host Pinecrest Oct. 15. Scotland is scheduled to be off next week, so only one game is currently affected by the team’s quarantine.
“Although five students are under quarantine and the team may continue their activity, the Athletic Leadership at Scotland County schools has decided to suspend practice and games for the next ten days,” Scotland County Schools communications/public relations specialist David Wells said in a statement Wednesday. “Players will be provided at home activities to keep them fit during the break.”
The Scots underwent contact tracing Tuesday, according to head coach Richard Bailey.
“We thought we had it contained, but had some more (positive cases) pop up (Wednesday),” Bailey said.
