Now that LSU quarterback Joe Burrow has his Heisman trophy, speculations about next year’s winner have started.

There’s a handful of players who will likely have their name in the hat for next year’s Heisman race. That list includes Ohio State’s Justin Fields, Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence, Alabama’s Mac Jones and several other established names.

Oh, and there’s Georgia running back and Scotland High graduate Zamir White.

The man who wreaked havoc on defenses as a Fighting Scot has been labeled as a candidate for next year’s Heisman Trophy, the award given to the NCAA’s best football player. Oddsmakers at CBS Sportsline have listed White’s odds of winning the trophy at 20:1. According to Sportsline’s list, White has the eighth-best odds of winning. The three aforementioned quarterbacks — Fields (5:2 odds), Lawrence (3:1) and Jones (7:1) — are at the top of the list. The chart continues with Auburn quarterback Bo Nix (8:1), Southern California quarterback Kedon Slovis (10:1), Alabama receiver Jaylen Waddle (12:1) and LSU receiver Ja’Marr Chase (15:1). White is behind Chase, and he is followed by Oklahoma State quarterback Spencer Sanders (25:1).

The 2020 Heisman projections should be taken with a grain of salt because the 2019 bowl season hasn’t even started yet. But being recognized as a Heisman candidate is a big achievement for White, who made his collegiate debut this season after being sidelined last year with the second ACL injury of his career.

Assuming junior feature back D’Andre Swift declares for the NFL draft, White could play a big part in Georgia’s offense as a redshirt sophomore next year.

White has appeared in 12 games this season. He has accumulated a total of 316 yards rushing, including a pair of touchdowns. White is averaging 5.3 yards per carry.

No. 5 Georgia is set to face No. 7 Baylor in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1 in New Orleans.
