PINEVILLE, N.C. —The St. Andrews Knights women’s soccer team took a short road trip up to the Charlotte area for a Wednesday night matchup with Johnson & Wales University. Unfortunately for the Knights, the trip ended with a loss as they were defeated by the Wildcats 1-0. St. Andrews falls to 0-3 with the loss while Johnson & Wales improves to 1-1 with the win.

The game was as defensive minded as the final score suggests. St. Andrews only managed to get one shot on goal (by Flo De Castro) and attempted three shots throughout the 90 minutes. Zoe Balmer and Hanna Ciplickas both played 45 minutes each in goal for Johnson & Wales.

Jaydin Sanchez and Karla Mendoza also split the time evenly in net for the Knights but were far busier than the Wildcats’ netminders. Johnson & Wales attempted 13 shots throughout the game, eight of which required saves. They were nearly perfect, stopping seven of them.

The game’s lone goal came with just under 14 minutes remaining in the contest. Elizabeth Parsells ended up with the game winning tally for the Wildcats on an assist by Katie Douglas. It was Parsells’ first goal of the season according to their statistics page on the athletics website.

The Knights will have a short turnaround with a road trip to Reinhardt on the schedule for Saturday afternoon. The game will start at 1 p.m. and is the first conference matchup of the season for St. Andrews.
