LAURINBURG — Scotland Christian Academy’s softball team is riding a five-game win streak, after a doubleheader victory over Antioch Christian Academy of Lumberton last week and a win on Monday against Riverside Christian of Fayetteville.
Prior to the start of the doubleheader, Scotland Christian celebrated its three seniors — Destiny Cartrette, Kyleigh Collins, and Telinda White.
The teams were scheduled to play last Tuesday, but the game was rained out so the teams played a doubleheader on Thursday to make up the missed game.
In game one, the Lady Saints run-ruled Antioch in three innings, 13-0. Freshman Kinsley Sheppard picked up the win in the circle throwing all three innings allowing zero runs off one hit with 10 strikeouts.
Lady Saints senior Destiny Cartrette, who recently signed with St. Andrews to play basketball, hit a grand slam to jump start the Scotland Christian offense. Junior Rachel Brown also had a good game in the box going 2-for-3 with a double and run scored.
Game two was a similar outcome as the Lady Saints blanked Antioch, 16-0 in four innings.
Sheppard again pitched lights out tossing two innings while senior Kyleigh Collins pitched the other two. The duo combined for one hit and five strikeouts.
Offensively, Sheppard paced the Lady Saints going 3-for-3 with a double and a home run. Senior Kyleigh Collins went 2-for-2 with three runs scored.
On Monday, the Lady Saints gave up two runs for the first time in four games against Riverside Christian of Fayetteville. The two teams went the distance as Scotland Christian picked up the 8-2 win.
The Lady Saints jumped out to a 7-1 lead after three innings thanks to the hitting of freshman Bethany Jacobs who went 2-for-4 with two doubles.
In the circle, eighth grader Kadance Sheppard threw all seven innings allowing two runs with two walks and 15 strikeouts.
The wins move the Lady Saints to 14-1 overall on the season and 5-0 in conference play. The team wrapped up their regular season on Tuesday with a game against Columbus Christian Academy out of Whiteville.
