HAMLET− Richmond Community College is sponsoring a free two-part seminar that begins today to teach people how to gain grants for nonprofits.

The Grant Writing A-L seminar will be held today and Grant Writing M-Z will be held Thursday. Both seminars are free and open to the public. Classes will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Lee Building, room 20 on the college’s main campus in Hamlet.

Participants will learn how to find resources for grants, how to complete a grant application, how to write effective proposals and how to pitch their visions to funding sources.

Former attorney, community college instructor, and grant writer Gypsie Murdaugh will lead the seminars. Murdaugh has more than 20 years of experience in finding funding, grant writing, and preparing proposals.

“Many times non-profits have amazing visions and missions of how to help marginalized people and yet struggle to find funding or someone who believes in their cause,” Murdaugh said. “I will share information that ensures these organizations there are funding resources.”

Murdaugh is a certified counselor and consultant for non-profits throughout the Carolinas. She has procured millions of dollars in grants during the last 20 years and has been teaching grant writing techniques since 1989.

The seminar is sponsored by Richmond Community College’s Small Business Center.
