HAMLET – Chance Askew and James McDonald, students at Richmond Community College competed and placed in the American Welding Society’s annual regional welding competition at Surry Community College in Dobson. The competition was held last week
Askew placed eighth overall and McDonald placed in the top 20. Each competitor had to compete welds in three different processes, stick, MIG and TIG.
Students from nine community colleges, Central Piedmont, Craven, Guilford, Johnston, Lenoir, Nash, Richmond, Rowan-Cabarrus and Wake participated.
Local businesses donated helmets, gloves and other personal safety equipment to the winners.
