Kimberly McRae will become the new Scotland County Department of Social Services director, effective Dec. 1.

LAURINBURG — Kimberly McRae was unanimously selected as the director of Scotland County Department of Social Services, effective Dec. 1,the DSS board of directors announced Thursday.

McRae has served the role of interim director of the department since Aug. 1, taking the place of April Snead who is now the Scotland County manager.

The board of directors expressed their continued commitment to McRae, and thanked her for the “excellent job she has done with the Department of Social Services over the past three months.”

McRae graduated from North Carolina A&T State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management. She has more than 29 years of experience at Scotland County Social Services, serving as an adult services social worker and as supervisor of the Adult Services and Work First Employment divisions for the last 15 years.

McRae said she is committed to working with the community to ensure all residents have access to the resources and support needed to thrive.

“DSS provides a wide range of essential services to our community and I am grateful for the dedicated staff who work tirelessly to help our most vulnerable residents,” McRae said.

As director, McRae said her focus will be on strengthening partnerships with community organizations and businesses to ensure that DSS is providing “the best possible services and outcomes for our residents.”

She also said she will work to continue “improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the department’s operations in an effort to ensure that their resources are put to the very best usage.”

“I am excited to begin this new career and look forward to working with staff and the citizens of Scotland County to build a stronger and more equitable community,” McRae said.
