Carver accepting applications for magnet program

LAUREL HILL — Carver Middle School is accepting applications from rising sixth graders for the new science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) magnet program for the 2015-16 school year.

In the program, students will apply skills in those areas to contexts that make connections between school, community, and work.

This is accomplished through outdoor classrooms, research skills, electives, clubs and competitions. A comprehensive fine arts program will include art, music, and band.

Applications have been sent home district-wide with all current fifth graders, but an application can be downloaded from Applications are due by 2 p.m. on June 18.

Carver Middle will be hosting a parent night for rising sixth-grade students and their families at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the school’s media center.
