LAURINBURG — A section of Church Street between King Street and Scotia Avenue was closed for several hours on Tuesday to allow city crews to repair the second of a pair of leaking water lines.

According to Stacey McQuage, Laurinburg’s public works director, the leaks, in a set of “abandoned services,” were discovered last week.

“We just capped it off so we shouldn’t have that issue again,” he said.

The repairs were relatively time-consuming as crews had to bore through cement from a previous version of U.S. 74 in addition to the asphalt of Church Street.

Asphalt should be added to the patch of rough road remaining on Church Street by the end of the week.
