LAURINBURG — Seventy-two players enjoyed a round of golf and helped raise money as part of the Scottish Pilot Club’s Annual Barbara Sasseen Memorial Golf Tournament

The tournament was last Saturday at Scotch Meadows Country Club, where after a continental breakfast, and welcomes by club President Terry Gallman and Scotch Meadows Golf Pro Chip Wells, the tournament began with a shot-gun start.

The tournament has been named for the late Barbara Sasseen, a charter member of the Scottish Pilot Club of Laurinburg. Sasseen was an avid golfer whose love for the game started the tournament in 1993.

The Sasseen Family was recognized at the luncheon following the tournament. Barbara Sasseen’s husband, Tony attends yearly to see old friends and drive the hospitality cart.

Rodney McCarter, Barbara’s son and Anna McMillan, her sister played in the tournament and were part of the first-place team.

Proceeds from the event support the Scottish Pilot Club’s development and many activities and projects. Chairpersons for the tournament were Jane Callahan, Janice Davis, Catherine Gainey, Georgia Mulee and Jennie Meggs. This year, the Scotland High School Anchor Club under the leadership of Kelly Cheek greeted golfers, carried their bags, drove refreshments around the course and assisted with clean-up.

The Scottish Pilot Club of Laurinburg is a member of Pilot International which is a community-based volunteer service organization with special interest in brain health and fitness, caring for families in need and youth development and leadership.
