The Jane Graham McKay and Katherine Hill McKay Scholarship is awarded to students pursuing an undergraduate degree in education, with an emphasis on elementary education. Preference is given to students from Scotland County, students attending St. Andrews University in Laurinburg, or members of Laurinburg Presbyterian Church or First United Methodist Church.
Katherine and Jane McKay were born and raised on a farm in Robeson County and graduated from St. Andrews College in Laurinburg. Katherine earned two master’s degrees, and the sisters both became elementary school teachers. Katherine taught for 35 years, and Jane was the librarian for the Scotland County School System.
To honor their love of education, the sisters established the scholarship program at Foundation For The Carolinas. FFTC manages nearly 3,000 charitable funds – including 150 scholarship programs – on behalf of individuals, nonprofits and corporations.
