LAURINBURG — On Friday the city of Laurinburg Fire Department received notification from the North Carolina Department of Insurance, Office of the State Fire Marshall of its new rating classification of Class 5/9E to the South-Central Scotland Fire District.
“This was the results from our state inspection that took place on Feb. 7,” said Laurinburg Fire Chief Randy Gibson. “The purpose of this inspection was to verify that the Fire Insurance District would qualify for homeowner insurance reduction by meeting or exceeding that minimum requirements of a rated fire department and certified district.”
The notification letter also indicated that by extending the boundaries with the fire sub-station to the fire district, that the new rating classification would apply to the areas within a five-mile radius of the substation with an effective date of Aug. 1.
The Scotland County Board of Commissioners approved a new fire district map, which was redrawn to include the placement of the two new fire sub-stations and new response districts in January.
