Despite a chilly, fall day, the annual Collard Festival was a big hit in Maxton on Saturday. The event attracted a good crowd, many of whom came for the fresh collard sandwiches — and even bought collard bunches to take home — while others came for the rides and other entertainment. The town of Maxton likes to bill itself as ‘The Collard Sandwich Capital .’
