LAURINBURG — Scotland Community Health Clinic was recognized at the annual membership meeting of NC Association of Free and Charitable Clinics as one of four top performers in outcomes for diabetes and hypertension among NCAFCC member clinics participating in the BCBSNC foundation’s Outcomes Survey for 2018.

SCHC was awarded $5,000 for this achievement of outstanding patient care.

The BCBSNC Foundation annually surveys free clinics to determine their outcomes for management of patients with diabetes and hypertension. Working through the NC Association of Free and Charitable Clinics, member clinics are recognized for participating in the survey. NCAFCC reviews the outcomes for its member clinics and awards the highest performing clinics with the Top Performer Award. These clinics have the highest health gains outcomes in maintaining patients with hypertension for blood pressure less than 140/90, and for patients with diabetes for having an HbA1c of less than 9%.

Scotland Community Health Clinic provides free primary medical care and medicine to uninsured adult residents of Scotland County who are on limited income and unable to afford basic medical care and medicine. Patients are screened for eligibility prior to getting appointments.

The clinic’s regular part-time provider is Linda Arrington, FNPC, who closely monitors and educates her patients to attain the best outcomes.
