4-H STEM programs planned

LAURINBURG — The local 4-H program will be holding two STEM Saturday classes.

The classes offer hands-on, interactive projects of Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) for ages 5-14.

The first class will be on April 21 and will have the participants working together to build a Lego SuGo robot and battle against other teams for chance to compete against the champion Sammy SuGo. The deadline to register for this class is April 6.

The second class will be held on May 19 and will feature the magic of electricity. The kids will team up and explore different forms of electricity. The deadline to register for this class is May 3.

Each class will be held at the Scotland County Cooperative Ext. Center from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

There will also be a 4-H county activity day on May 10 at 6 p.m. for ages 5-18. The event allows for youth to showcase their talents and skills. Those representing Scotland County can compete n a one of the 33 presentation categories ranging from agriculture science to beef char-grill. The youth are separated in the competition by category topic and age. The deadline to register is April 30.
