The meeting begins at noon on Thursday. Wayne Goodwin, the new chairman of the NC Democratic Party, is the speaker.

Wayne Goodwin, the new chairman of the North Carolina Democratic Party, is the speaker.

Goodwin, a Hamlet native, had served as state insurance commissioner since 2008 before narrowly losing the post to Republican Mike Causey in November. He also served in the legislature for eight years. Goodwin was elected overwhelmingly by the party Executive Committee last month in a four-candidate race.

Scotland officials said the new chairman will share goals and strategies for moving forward in North Carolina and listen to local concerns and needs.

The meeting will also include Democratic candidates considering a run in 2018 for the congressional District 9 seat held by U.S Rep. Robert Pittenger.

Scotland Place is at 1210 Turnpike Road, Laurinburg.
