Williams shelves campaign for Scotland County board

LAURINBURG — Terence Williams announced on Thursday that he will no longer be a candidate for a seat on the Scotland County Board of Commissioners.

Williams said a new business venture may consume the time needed to run or to serve if elected.

“The decision to drop out of the race for county commissioner was not an easy one,” Williams said. “Nevertheless, due to unforeseen work-related opportunities and a desire to consolidate the votes to ensure change, I will not be able to give a 100 percent effort in serving the citizens of Scotland County at this time.”

Williams’ name will still appear on the Stewartsville Democratic primary ballot along with incumbents Guy McCook and Carol McCall and challengers Jeremy Baker and Matthew Block.

Tim Ivey is only candidate on the Stewartsville Republican ballot.

The primary is May 8. Early voting starts April 19.

Williams is asking his supporters to vote for any of the challengers in the race. He said that would “solidify true grassroots transformational actions as a priority for our community.”

“Pledging your support for a new candidate will ensure that the voters will continue to be a respected part of authentic dialogue that is currently taking place,” he said.

Williams, a former school board member, was running on the campaign slogan “We the People Matter.”

“I realize that politics is a journey and prayerfully the citizens of Scotland County will give me another chance when the timing is best for me and my family to serve,” Williams said.

A 1984 Scotland High School graduate, Williams is currently pastor for the World Ministries and is a business/life coach and marketing director for LH Inc.
