LAURINBURG — Friends and family of Jordan Brigman, a recent Scotland High School graduate diagnosed with a brain tumor in early June, are holding a benefit sale Saturday to raise money for his medical expenses.

The fundraiser will include a yard sale, bake sale, raffle, and auction to help to support Brigman’s family through his battle with cancer. The group of volunteers, friends and family of Brigman will also be accepting donations. The benefit 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 120 E. Cronly St.

Doctors discovered Brigman had a brain tumor in early June and later diagnosed the teenager with Stage-4 Medulloblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, according to his mother, Joy Jacobs.

Brigman was unable to attend the Class of 2017 graduation at Pate Stadium June 10. The teen finished in the top 20 percent of his class by graduating with honors.

According to Tara Branch, an organizer for the benefit, people from throughout the community have been donating more items than she can count to be sold during the sale and volunteers spanning across multiple counties plan to lend a hand.

“We have a lot of people donating money, baked goods, and their time. It has been awesome to see everyone coming together. Volunteers have been saying ‘what do I need to do and tell me when I need to be there,’” Branch said.

Individuals from Raeford, Pembroke, and Rockingham are also making the trip to Laurinburg to help with the benefit, according to organizers.

“The community is just coming together to help someone that really needs them,”Branch said, who came up with the idea to help Brigman’s family with her cousin Tracy McGill.

Saturday’s event is not the first to raise money for Brigman’s battle with cancer, Pizza Inn, Brigman’s employer, held an event Tuesday donating a percentage of sales to his family, and his mother has been selling “Team Jordan” bracelets and decals at Kimbrell’s Furniture, where she is a manager.

Branch and other volunteers will also be giving haircuts throughout the event for donations toward Brigman’s medical expenses.
