SANFORD — The No. 6 Lady Scots soccer team (3-12-1, 2-10 Sandhills Athletic Conference) fell 10-1 after the game was called with 32 minutes left in the second half against the No. 3 Lee County Yellow Jackets (12-7-1, 8-4 SAC) in the first-round of the SAC tournament Monday night.

The Lady Scots trailed 7-0 at the halftime break and allowed three more Lee County goals in the first eight minutes of the second half.

The Lady Scots’ only goal of the night came on a penalty kick in the second half, after Emma Clark was fouled in the 18-yard box; however, Clark gave up the kick to senior Laura Wlodarczak, with the score out of hand and Clark knowing it was Wlodarczak’s last high school soccer game.

Clark and Wlodarczak each had two shots on goal, and Joana Flores finished with one. Lady Scots goalkeeper Terra Anderson recorded 28 saves on 40 Lee County shots.

With the Lady Scots at 46th in the NCHSAA’s RPI rankings for the 3A East Region coming into Monday, they will not qualify for the state playoffs, which ultimately ends their season.
