Blue participating in Body Armor State Games

LAURINBURG — Scotland High School softball player Dawson Blue is competing in the Body Armor State Games from June 19-21 in Charlotte.

Blue, who’s a rising sophomore, was selected to the Region 3 team, which is made up of 14 players from Chatham, Cumberland, Durham, Hoke, Harnett, Johnston, Lee, Moore, Orange, Robeson, Scotland, and Wake counties.

To play in the games, players had to tryout at various high schools in each region; Region 3 players tried out at Green Level High School earlier this month.

Region 3 will play at 5, 6, and 7 p.m. on Monday and at 11:15 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday; all games will be played at Frank Liske Park.

Blue started out as a utility player for the Lady Scots this past season before being inserted as the team’s shortstop shortly after the season began. In her freshman campaign, she had a team-high four home runs and 39 runs while also recording 26 RBIs and 31 stolen bases. Blue was also an all-Sandhills Athletic Conference selection this past year.

Blue joins Southern Lee’s Maggie Lucas as the only two SAC players who were named to a regional team; Lee County coach Devan Daniel was selected as the lone assistant coach for Region 3.
