LAURINBURG — The Scotland women’s golf team played at Scotch Meadows Country Club in their first Sandhills Athletic Conference meet on Monday. All SAC schools participated in the event except Hoke County.

The Lady Scots finished the day with a team score of 158, which was good enough for fourth place. Pinecrest finished in first place with a 103, Union Pines followed behind with a 134, Lee County placed third with a 148, Richmond came in fifth with a 178, and Southern Lee was sixth, but their team score wasn’t available at press time.

Pinecrest earned six team points from the meet, and the other teams had one less than the team that finished right above them, meaning Scotland took three.

Claire Smith shot the lowest score for the Lady Scots with a 47, Delaney Pittman had a 53, Karli Jacques had a 62, and Sherrina Smith had a 63.

“We played well for the first match of the season,” Scotland head coach Megan Jernigan said.

Scotland’s next SAC meet comes on Sep. 18 at Foxfire Resort and Golf — a home meet for Richmond.
