LILLINGTON — The Scotland Fighting Scots baseball team eked out a 9-8 win against the Western Harnett Eagles in nonconference action Monday.

It was the second time Scotland (7-2) and Western Harnett (4-8) played each other this season; the Eagles won 4-2 in Laurinburg on March 7.

Western Harnett scored four seventh-inning runs with one out to come within one of tying the game. And with runners in scoring position, a strikeout and a pop-out ensued, helping Scotland slip away victorious.

Scotland led 4-1 after the first inning and scored two more in the second; Western Harnett made it 6-2 in the third before the Scots put up two more in the fourth and the Eagles added one in the same inning. Each team had a run in the fifth for a 9-4 score before Western Harnett’s crooked seventh.

Scotland’s Garrett Manning had three runs and one hit; Dawson Williams was 4-for-5 with a double, two runs and two RBIs; Logan Adner went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs and Kaden Hunsucker had two doubles with three RBIs.

Dylan Tilson tossed three innings, allowing one earned run on three hits with seven strikeouts and two walks to take the win; Robbie Peed and Brady Fowler each pitched two innings of relief, with Fowler being credited with the save.

Jackson Rosser scored two runs on two hits for the Eagles; Sam Kuzinski scored two runs and Pace Holder, Bryson Pope, Landon Wright and Tristan Giddens all had one run apiece.

Lawton Hickman gave up six runs and six hits with one strikeout and two walks in two innings, taking the loss for Western Harnett.

Scotland continues its out-of-conference stretch with a home matchup against Triton on Wednesday, weather permitting. It’ll be a first-round rematch of last year’s state playoffs when the 15th-seeded Hawks beat the No. 18 Scots 12-2.
