LAURINBURG — The Lady Scots took control of their game right from the start on Friday and went on to hand visiting Red Springs a 40-point, non-conference loss.

Scotland’s girls raced out to an 18-0 lead and, before the first quarter was over, had established a 26-4 advantage.

Things weren’t much better for the visitors in the second stanza, as the Lady Scots outscored the Lady Red Devils by an 18-9 margin and took a 44-13 lead into the intermission.

The Scotland defense never took its foot off the gas in the third quarter, holding Red Springs to just three points while extending the lead to 61-16.

Scotland’s subs took over in the fourth quarter and the Lady Red Devils managed tom win the period, 7-2. But the Lady Scots had racked up a 63-23 victory.

Scotland’s girls improved to 3-1 and were scheduled to open conference play on Tuesday at Hoke County. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.

Scotland boys fall

The Fighting Scots lost their second straight non-conference game on Friday, falling to visiting Red Springs by a score of 55-49.

The two losses have come by a combined 10 points after a tight opening win over Fairmont and a 50-point thumping of Douglas Byrd.

Scotland’s boys, now 2-2, will also open conference play on Tuesday by traveling to Raeford for a game against Hoke County at 8 p.m.
