PEMBROKE — The Scotland boys and girls track and field teams wrapped up their conference season this week at the Southeastern Conference championship meet on the campus of The University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
The Scotland boys tied for fifth place with 42 total points, and the girls were fifth with 32 points.
Hoke finished first among SEC boys teams after notching 157 points in the 17 events while Pinecrest captured first on the girls side with 201 points in 18 events.
Makkena Burt was Scotland’s top runner in the 100 meters, placing third with a time of 12.82. Burt also registered a fourth-place finish in the girls long jump with a mark of 15 feet, 11 inches.
Zamir White was the Scots’ top runner in the preliminaries for the boys 100 meters after finishing in a tie for first with Hoke’s Brandon Smith, but he was disqualified in the final race after jumping the gun.
Trevon Gibson, who also qualified for the 100 meter dash finals, placed fourth with a time of 11.55. In the 400 meters, Trey Dixon helped Scotland score a point when he finished sixth at 54.61.
Willie Douglas and Brenton Thomas placed second and third respectively in the boys long jump — Douglas set a mark of 21 feet, 5 1/2 inches while Thomas was right behind him at 20 feet, 5 1/2 inches.
In boys shot put, Octavis McLaurin came in sixth with a distance of 40 feet while James Smith placed fourth in boys discuss after recording a mark of 114 feet, 9 inches.
Scotland also had two athletes place in the triple jump. Shanqaylia Stanton finished fourth in the girls event at 33 feet, and Thomas was second among boys with a mark of 40 feet, 8 inches.
