LAURINBURG — Scotland High graduates Bruce Wall and Ja’lin Harris-McLeod were given one more accolade for their prep football careers when they were each named to the 2020 East-West All-Star Game.

The game will be played in Greensboro at Robert B. Jamieson Stadium on July 22 with an 8 p.m. kickoff — though the game remains under the cloud of the coronavirus pandemic.

“It’s pretty possible the game may not happen,” said Fighting Scots head coach Richard Bailey. “We’ll have to wait and see where things are over the next several weeks.”

If the game goes off without a hitch, Wall and Harris-McLeod will play for the East team — the 6-2, 195 Wall as an “athlete” and the 5-10, 280 Harris-McLeod on the offensive line.

Wall, who led Scotland High’s offensive as a quarterback and wide receiver, piled up big numbers for the Fighting Scots during the 2019 season.

Through the air, he was 45-of-72 passing, good for 780 yards, 10 touchdowns, just one interception and a 133.1 quarterback rating. On the ground, Wall rushed 109 times for 616 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also caught 11 passes for 174 yards and three touchdowns.

“Bruce had a good year for us,” Bailey said of his all-conference player. “He’s very versatile, so it’s no surprise he was chosen to play in this game.

“He’ll probably get a chance to play quarterback and receiver,” he added.

Wall, who also played basketball for the Fighting Scots, will attend Elizabeth City State University and play football for the Vikings.

Harris-McLean was one of Scotland High’s leaders on the offensive line and key cog in the Fighting Scots’ run game and pass protection.

“He’s a hard worker and strong,” Bailey said of his two-year starter. “He’s also a real good student — and could walk on somewhere if he chose to.

“I’m real proud of Ja’lin,” He added. “He was definitely one of our leaders on and off the field.”

The Fighting Scots finished the 2019 season 5-2 in the Sandhills Athletic Conference and 12-3 overall. The season ended with a 22-15 loss to Cardinal Gibbons in the East Region final.
