ROCKINGHAM —A lackluster performance by the Scotland varsity volleyball team led to a 3-0 loss at Richmond on Thursday night.

Richmond controlled the momentum for most of the night, winning the three sets 25-11, 25-16, 25-18.

Scotland’s best effort came in the third set. The Lady Scots took their first lead of the night (7-6) and proceeded to trade scores with the Raiders until an 8-0 Richmond run gave the hosts a commanding 23-17 lead.

Richmond had the upper hand from the moment the match started. The Raiders scored the first three points of the match, and they later used an 8-0 run to take an 11-3 lead. The error-prone Scots fell flat for the rest of the set.

The second set was a similar story, although the Scots were able to battle back with the help of a couple late kills by Kamdyn Morgan. Those kills helped Scotland cut Richmond’s lead to 20-13, but that was as close as they would get with their comeback attempt.

Scotland defeated Richmond 3-1 at home earlier this season.

Thursday’s match was the regular-season finale for both teams. Scotland (15-8, 11-3 SAC) sits in second place in the Sandhills Athletic Conference, and Richmond (17-5, 9-5) SAC is right behind them in third place.
