ROCKINGHAM — The Lady Scots softball team (9-2, 6-0 Sandhills Athletic Conference) cruised past the Richmond Raiders (8-2, 5-1 SAC) Tuesday night 12-2 in five innings.

The Lady Scots picked up three runs in the first inning from Addison Johnson, Lindsay Locklear, and Madison Dixon to lead 3-0, before the Raiders made it 3-2 in the third.

The Lady Scots managed to get hot with the bats in the fifth, scoring nine runs and ending the game, after holding the Raiders scoreless in the bottom of the inning.

Every player for the Lady Scots recorded at least one run except Nateya Scott; Johnson, Locklear, and Dixon each had two runs apiece.

Sydnee Dial claimed a team-high four RBIs, while Johnson followed behind with three. Dial also tied the team lead in hits with two alongside Locklear.

Avery Stutts pitched all five innings for the Lady Scots, allowing two runs on two hits, walking zero, recording two errors, and striking out seven, claiming the win.

Quston Leviner pitched all five innings for the Raiders, allowing 12 runs on eight hits, walking four, recording 11 errors, and striking out three, taking the loss.

The Lady Scots are back on the field March 29 at 7 p.m. against the South View Tigers in Laurinburg. Both teams faced off against each other earlier this season in Fayetteville, with South View winning 2-0.

Lady Scots soccer shutout at Pinecrest

The Lady Scots soccer team (3-3-1, 2-2 Sandhills Athletic Conference) suffered a 9-0 shutout loss to the Pinecrest Patriots (6-4, 4-0 SAC) Tuesday night.

The Lady Scots host Lee County in their next contest on March 31 at 6 p.m.

Hamilton faces off against Southern Lee’s Clayton

Cole Hamilton of the Scotland men’s tennis team competed against Preston Clayton of the Southern Lee Cavaliers Tuesday evening in a nonconference exhibition match in Laurinburg.

Southern Lee doesn’t have an official men’s tennis team this season, but the Cavaliers wanted to give Clayton some playing time, according to Scotland head coach William Graves.

Hamilton won the first set 8-2 and the final set 8-1 over Clayton.

The Scotland men’s tennis team’s next meet comes on March 30 at 4 p.m. against Union Pines in Laurinburg.
