DES MOINES, IA. — The St. Andrews University men’s volleyball team competed in the NAIA National Championships pool play this week, and the Knights finished with an 0-3 record.

The Knights competed in Pool A, which consisted of Lourdes University (Ohio), Benedictine-Mesa (Arizona), and Aquinas (Michigan). The top two teams from each pool moved on to the semifinals.

LU 3 SAU 0

Lourdes handled the Knights in the opening match of pool play, defeating St. Andrews in three sets (25-21, 25-20, 25-22).

Junior Jacob DeSouza collected 10 kills for the Knights. Edgar Huerta tallied nine kills and two service aces.

Senior Carlos Rodriguez led the Knights defensively with nine digs.

B-M 3 SAU 0

Benedictine-Mesa defeated the Knights in three sets (25-14, 25-18, 25-16).

St. Andrews totaled 26 kills in the match.

DeSouza once again fueled the SAU offense, recording nine kills. Huerta and Daryn Friedman both collected six kills.

AC 3 SAU 0

St. Andrews saw its season come to an end after a three-set battle against Aquinas (25-16, 25-19, and 25-21).

DeSouza recorded eight kills in the final match, and he finished the tournament with 27 kills

Friedman and Nate Blackwell both recorded seven kills.

The Knights finish their season 20-8 overall. The team has advanced to nationals twice in the program’s four-year history.

Women’s lacrosse falls in conference tourney

LAURINBURG — St. Andrews University’s women’s lacrosse team lost 9-7 against Columbia in the first round of the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament.

St. Andrews held Columbia to one goal in the second half.

Freshmen midfielder Skii Bollinger scored three goals for the Lady Knights. Freshmen attacker Daphne McMillen tallied three points with two goals and an assist. Freshmen goalie Rita Garcia had 10 saves in the game.

The Lady Knights made their first conference tournament appearance in four years.
