SOUTHERN PINES — Scotland High’s baseball and softball teams both lost at Pinecrest on Wednesday night.
In the baseball game, the Patriots defeated the Fighting Scots 7-1. Pinecrest scored all seven of its runs in the sixth inning.
Scotland (6-6, 5-4 SAC) registered just two hits. Tyler Faulk and Stewart Evans both finished 1-for-3 at the plate. Matt Sellers drew a pair of walks for the Scots.
Michael Johnson was Scotland’s starting pitcher. He notched six strikeouts while giving up five hits, three walks and one earned run in 5 1/3 innings.
In the softball game, Scotland (9-4, 5-4) lost 3-1. The Lady Scots’ seven-game winning streak came to an end.
Scotland and Pinecrest will face off again on Thursday night in Laurinburg. The varsity baseball and softball games both will begin at 7 p.m.
