Two Fighting Scots punch tickets to state

MOCKSVILLE — Two Scotland High wrestlers are headed to the state championship meet after posting top-four finishes in their respective weight classes at the NCHSAA 4A Midwest Regional.

Nathaniel Harrington finished third in the 285-pound bracket and Jeremiah McRimmon logged a fourth-place finish in the 170-pound class.

In his first bout, Harrington pinned Kevin Perez Olmedo of West Forsyth. He was then pinned by Page’s Shayne Mallory in the quarterfinals. Harrington rebounded with three victories in the consolation bracket. He pinned Richmond’s Ahmad Shelton, Ragsdale’s Jeremiah Opata and Pinecrest’s Chase Godwin to advance to the third-place bout, where he had a rematch with Mallory.

Harrington secured his third-place finish after Mallory suffered an injury during the match.

McRimmon opened his tournament run with a pin against Jonah Brooks of High Point Central. He was knocked down to the consolation bracket after being pinned by Isaac Strickland of Independence in the quarterfinals. McRimmon rattled off three straight wins in the consolation rounds. He pinned Davie’s Tyris Griffin and Reagan’s Rece Rader before advancing to the third-place bout with a win by decision (6-3) against Glenn’s Lyndon Harmon. McRimmon was pinned by Northwest Guilford’s Ian Adams in his final bout.
